the final one folks!!!
Well howdy, diddly doo!!!I can actually write a blog- sorry if the end is near one foxed you- the PC at the airport would only let me do a title- doh!!! So, here I am, in Chalong Bay, Phuket Island. This will be my final blog, until we return to Blighty and bore you with our last lot of pics!!! Wow- we're right at the end of it all and boy has it been an adventure!! Our time in Australia whizzed by. Despite severe cabin fever and living in the oven that was our home for a month, we recovered just in time to really have an incredible bang to it all!! We had a super day trip from Darwin to Litchfield Park, with a really great group of fellow backpackers- the first time we've actually swapped email addresses with anyone we've met this whole trip (and it's not because we're stuck up or anything!!!) Mark, Sam, (no. I haven't replaced you Sammy- he was a boy!!) Michelle, LIndsay and Lutz were all very cool. We had an excellent day- breakfast by the Adelaide River, before a quick cuddle with a beautiful Olive Python, then a jump onto the jumping crocs boat!! Here, we sat on the boat, whilst a mad lady dangled chunks of meat over the edge and waited for the crocs to come and have some brekkie- as you do!! We saw LOADS!! They were awesome!!!! They saved the best until last though- one they called Hannibal ((reassuring!) who was at least 100 years old and had eaten other crocs in the river- he was massive and once he realised where the meat was (getting on, you see!) he could still jump up and out of the water like the best of them!!! We also visited the HUGE termite hills (which reminded me of the stones of Carnac, France, if you've seen them) Our driver, Joey, decided to play a hilarious trick on us once he'd picked us up in the bus- he slammedon the brakes and grappled with a snake he's spotted at the side of the road- we stayed in the bus with the door open, so we could see- then he just threw it into the bus, for us to scream merry hell and try to get the heck out of there!!! Nice- IT WAS A RUBBER SNAKE!!! (git!) We then had a coupleof glorious swims in the waterfalls/rivers of Litchfield PArk- bliss!!! We could've wasted several hours there easily!!! However, the thunder clouds rolled in and we bid a hasty retreat. People say not to bother visiting the north during the rainy season, but I'd definately say 'do it' because the landscape is beautiful and theres so much to see. Accomodation is easy to get too, because no one goes there then, because of the rain....rain, schmain!!! We had a crazy evening in the Vic Hotel, where we cashed in our peasant/backpacker free meal vouchers and played lots of silly games in order to win beer- and lots of lit!!! Our crazy Irish girl, Michelle, had to eat 5 tim tams to win the 50 dollar beer voucher- she did it and we were all proud of her!! We had dancing on the tables and laughed at the locals- who were all there to pull- it was like a night at Liberties in Dorchester- cheesy cheesy music and very fun!!! (note- John even danced on the table!!!)We flew to the 'REd Centre' to Alice SPrings and our super hostel- Anni's PLace- thouroughly recommend!!! We had a hire car for the duration- ahhh, air conditioning!!! We hired a swag, packed up the car and drove to Uluru for three days- AWESOME!!!!! Uluru is like nothing I've ever seen before- yes, we've all seen the pictures, but the reality is quite amazing!! I didn't realise how close we were also to Katja Tutya (The Olgas) They were beautiful, but surrounded in a bit more mystery because the Aborigines can't tell their stories about the area- they're only for their families and others can't know about it!! We took our time in the cultural Centre, to try and take it all in and really, there was so much to find out. All the fables and ancient stories surrounding the Roc- just fascinating. We went to watch the sunset which was stunning, beautiful, awe inspiring- we were hooked!!! John was even more hooked the next morning and went to see the sun rise- I, however, had other ideas and didn't have the best nights sleep in the swag....I missed the sunrise, but the pictures are ace!!! We had booked a room at the Kings Canyon Resort, so drove on to there later that day. (I'm making it sounds like a breeze- but it was a long drive, with not a lot to look out for along the way...unless you counted the road kill camels/roos and the occasional snake/lizard sunbathing on the road!!!) It was really far too hot to do the rim walk at Kings Canyon, so we stuck to the creek walks, which were beautiful! There had been a rainfall in the last week, so there were also billabongs to look at- LOADS OF FLYS ThoUGH- Grrrr!!! We had a lovely walk towards the end of the day, which was far more bearable! On our way back to Alice, we tried to see if the famous singing Dingo was in at one of the service stations- but he's already performed for the day- fancy that- not being in for us- and we'd come all that way!!! We liked Alice alot. There were alot of Aboriginies sitting out in the open spaces, with their booze, which was sad to see but it common place, unfortunately. We visited the School Of the Air, which was really fascinating- busman's holiday!!! It was great to see how primary school aged children were educated so well and so successfully, over the airwaves and through using the internet. I was very impressed- until I saw that the teachers had just as much, if not more paperwork to do!!!!We then flew from ALice to Perth. Where we were met by the lovely MArian (Elayna's Mum!) who took us under her wing- for the whole week!!! We were thoroughly spoilt and can't thank her and Terry enough! We were truly welcomed into the bosom of the Kilderry family; were wined and dined, taken to the BEAUTIFUL family home near Dunsborough for the weekend, taken wine tasting at the vineyards there, shown the gorgeous beaches, where Elayna used to paddle....!!! (I'm picturing it Laney!!) and went to the MArgaret River CHOCOALTE COMPANY- YUMMO!!! We were so so lucky and had the best time in Perth. We couldn't have asked for a better ending to our trip! Also, England beat Australia in the one day cricket- which was a great source of amusement for us while we were there- John was a happy man!!! We also met lots of Marian and Terry's lovely friends, and ELayna's brother Dan and his girlfriend Andrea, and sister Justine. We had a lovely family meal on our last night and it was just like being at home- great- one person missing though...but I'll be seeing her VERY SOON!!! Whilst there, we were also lucky enough to meet up with James andMichelle Bugner, who were there with the lovely BJ!! We had a super BBQ together, with the stunning Perth skyline behind us. JOhn chased a few rats and I managed to escape being pecked by the local black swans- apparently, we were priveliged because teh black swans are 'very Perth'- very cheeky if you ask me!! It was great to see James and Michelle and catch up with them- albeit briefly- and I shall always have the memory of James being determined that he COULD eat five crackers in one go....!?!?! Our week just flew by and I can't thank the Kilderrys enough- Elayna- you come from the most loving, generous and hysterically funny family!!We shan't talk about Singapore...needless to say, we were there for a night- I'm sure it's a lovely place- it was a stoppver- there were prostitutes everywhere, icluding IN our hotel and we didn't go out at all- ordered takeaway MacDonalds to come to the hotel and left early in the moring for our flight to Phuket!!Thailand though- wow!! If only we had more money/time...yadda yadda!!! The drive from the airport was certainyl an eye opener- particularly the elephants walking along the road!!! What a fascinating place! Our resort is on an island (Coral Island) we're right off the bottom of Phuket Island, so nowhere near any of the familiar places. We have a lovely little bungalow, theres a pool and the sea- what more could you ask for!?! John made instant friends with a waiter 'Laurn' who said 'ohh, you from England- I love Manchester United!!!' well, that sold it!!! Everyday now, he says 'hello John, hello Emily, you have a good day?!' We had Thai 'massages' yesterday- side by side in a beautiful open bench by the sea shore- John was actually climbed on and had his buttocks tightly squeezed by a lovely Thail lady who kept telling him to 'just relax Mister- I only 50 kilos!!!'We're being incredibly lazy and have to keep pincjing ourselves that a) we're here and b) it's nearly all over. However, we can't wait to come home and see all our nearest and dearest!!! Not long to go!!!Amanda- I'm soooo glad you've been able to log on finally!!! Congratulations in buying the shop- thats fantastic news!!! Can't wait fo rthe celebrations - I think we shall need some loster again!!!To all you fantastic family and friends who've supported us so wonderfully whilst we've been away- thankyou for all your love and encouragement along the way. We've had the most amazing adventure together and owe it all to you guys for your super wedding gifts!! We shall always treasure the memories we've had and thanyou for taking the time to read all about them too!!!See you in just over a week!!!All our love Em and John xxx

KimikoPi on The Unseen Pictures in Hiroshima after the Atomic bombing
I think photos have their place in discussion, but at most they should supplement logical arguments, and not be the sole basis for making policy or forming beliefs. After all, pro-life protestors shove giant posters of dead fetuses in our faces. And although those images are gross, in themselves they do make a coherent argument for or against abortion. Images of knee surgery are also gross, but that doesn't mean anybody should have knee surgery.
